Messages From Your Angels
© 2002 Doreen VirtueMessages from Your Angels brings you 44 unique angels to work with. These are not the most well-known angels that most are familiar with. Doreen Virtue has given each of these angels a name and provides a specific message for each one. Whether you choose to call an angel by a familiar name or a name you choose and attach to that angel is not important. What is important is that you allow the angels access to your life and heart. As always, they will not make your decisions for you, but they will guide you if you ask.
I have found that this deck works very nicely for daily, weekly, or monthly readings to just let the angels bring a message of guidance to me, but they can also address specific questions as well. I have to say that I do not fully agree with a statement made in the guidebook where it tells us "And since your future stems from what you think and do, these cards accurately predict your future." The angels will be the first ones to remind us that our futures are not set in stone. Yes, it's true that our choices and actions today can influence our tomorrows in such a way that we do literally create our own destinies. But the fact is that we can work on changing what we don't like so that we can create a more desirable future. And when a positive outcome is indicated, we should work to maintain that rather than to fall into a pattern of believing that it's going to be a given just because we drew a card to confirm what we hoped to see. So I cannot say that these cards predict the future at all . . . but you can shape, mold, and create your future as you wish! That's part of the gift of choice and free will that we have been given by the Heavens! These cards can certainly guide you along the way and help you stay on track.
Some of have found this particular card set a little hard to work with because they feel the cards they pull are irrelevant or seem to talk about something else entirely than what was asked about. That can happen in any reading or with any oracle that you work with. Sometimes there is something more important that the angels feel you need to be focusing on than what you are specifically asking about. The angels do their best to answer your questions and bring you the heavenly guidance that you need. However, sometimes as human beings, we do get caught up in focusing on things that are not as relevant in our lives as what we really need to be paying more attention to. The angels will let us know when this is happening. It's not that they will ever view any question on our minds as unimportant, but some things may need to have more priority in our lives.
I work with reversals in this deck, as I feel it will also help point to any areas that may be blocked to us or areas where we are limited or hindered in some way. For example, if I draw the "Victory" card upright, I can feel confident that I will succeed and gain victory in an endeavor, but if it comes up reversed, I can learn about what may be blocking that success that I am striving for. It allows me to look into my situation more deeply so that I can make changes as necessary in order to ultimately have the victory I desire.
Through the years of doing readings with this card set, I have had clients indicate that they encountered someone of their past who had the same name of an angel card I drew for them in a reading. This can happen, too. If a message seems to have no relevance to you, it's possible that the name on the card or one that is similar or sounds similar may represent someone in your life that you may have contact with -- possibly someone you've not seen in a long time. This is yet another way that the angels bring us messages as they guide us through life. I have found that there will always be a reason that a particular card comes up even if it's not immediately clear why that card has presented itself.
Each of the 44 cards in this angel deck include the name of the angel at the top with a lovely painting below the name. On the lower third of the card is one or two sentence message that offers the theme of that card. The 69-page guidebook provides additional messages about the card. This is a good deck to really let your intuitive voice be heard, because after reading the information in the guidebook, the angels will open your mind to a deeper understanding and meaning for the card or cards you have drawn. For example, I have found that most of the time when I draw the Angel card of Yvonne which states "You have a special bond with animals. Your pets on Earth and in Heaven are watched over by the angels." . . . this usually does not have anything to do with a question related to someone's pets that have passed on. But this is a way that the angels can speak to us about nurturing, care, and watching over others. It's a way that they can speak to us about bonding and companionship. Companionship is certainly a gift available to us through pets and animals -- or through fellow human beings. Very rarely have I pulled this card for a question specifically about a pet passing on. This is what can seem confusing to some people, so one needs to be able and willing to look a bit deeper. You can certainly pull an additional card if you feel confused -- and simply let the angels know you don't understand and are seeking a little more guidance to clear things up for you. With the card of Yvonne that speaks about pets, it can also signify that perhaps you need a pet in your life or that one may be coming into your life for you to take care of and enjoy. It could signify that a pet needs your attention -- or even someone in your life might need some attention or special care. Everything should not be taken at just face value with these cards. There is more to explore if you open your mind and heart.
The cards are sturdy and glossy-coated. It may take a bit of "getting used to" in order to shuffle the cards comfortably, but once they were "broke in" for me, they seemed to shuffle very well. Most of the card illustrations are attractive and appealing. The back of the cards feature a motif of angel wings crowned with a pearl. The wings are suspended above the image of earth on a night time sky among the stars.
This particular deck will not be for everyone, because some people do need or require more extensive information than what the guidebook offers for these cards. But if you are an experienced reader with various oracles, including other angel cards, you are likely to get the most benefit from "Messages from your Angels." This is definitely not a card set where you can open the book to the page number for the card drawn and gain all your answers clearly in black and white. In some cases, the message may be very clear, but in other cases, you may be required to really ponder the information and the card you've drawn. It could be that the angels are trying to guide you toward thinking about something else that needs your focus . . . or you may be guided to stretch your imagination to see that there is more to the message than meets the eye. This is not easy for everyone to do, and often it is difficult for a beginner to try to access the deeper connections available in the cards. But given time and practice, things can become more clear for you in using this deck -- depending on your openness and willingness.
The names of the angels are arranged alphabetically in the guidebook which makes it easy to quickly find the meaning of the cards drawn. Eight different angel spreads are included in this oracle which is quite a lot for a boxed set of this nature. Although spreads are included that seem to encourage a "yes/no" answer, those types of questions are not the best kind to ask -- such as "Is _____ my soulmate?" Other questions posed in the guidebook are also not the best to ask in my opinion -- such as "When will I meet my soulmate?" The angels rarely offer us time frames, but in some cases they will do so. However, I've not found this deck to be one that does well with telling us about the specific timing of events. As a professional Tarot reader, I can tell you that most of us discourage the asking of yes/no questions, as the nature of those questions tend to be disempowering. I never disallow a yes/no question to be asked, but most of the time when that sort of question is presented, I will rephrase the question to allow more information to come in than a simple yes or a no. And the fact is that when we are getting a reading (or giving a reading), we want and need to be able to tap into more than just a simple "yes" or a "no" for our clients our for ourselves. Life is not as simple as a "yes" or a "no," and it naturally follows that the angel messages will not be quite that simple either.
Consider empowering questions that can help you understand what to do for your best benefit -- questions that encourage action and decision rather than trying to look at destiny or fate as something that just happens outside of your control. So be aware that the guidebook does not include the best or the most empowering questions that can be asked. I was a bit surprised to see questions presented in that way by such a wonderful author that I admire. But perhaps she assumes that we all know to rephrase or look deeper . . . however, not everyone may understand that and can naturally get upset when the answers from the cards only serve to further confuse them when they are trying to seek a "yes" or a "no" response.
